- Summary
- "Improved bus service can make our cities better places to live for all citizens and help address some of America's deepest social and environmental problems. But there is an enormous mismatch between how badly American cities need good bus service and how committed their leaders are to providing it. In Better Buses, Better Cities, transit expert Steven Higashide shows that it does not have to be this way. In defiance of the national trend, bus ridership has grown in cities as different as Houston, Columbus, San Francisco, Seattle, and Indianapolis. These places share a key similarity--their leaders have taken forceful action to improve bus service. Higashide tells the story of how a rising generation of activists, planners, and elected leaders have recognized the power of better bus service to offer affordable mobility and connect citizens with jobs and services. Combining a compelling narrative with actionable steps, Higashide inspires us to fix the bus."--Back cover
